KEY FACTORS

  • San Diego:
    • Have won 4 of the past 5 games against Liga MX teams in SnapDragon Stadium.
    • The Scandinavian partnership of Anders Dreyer and Marcus Ingvartsen remains one of SDFC’s biggest strengths.
    • Dreyer has totaled 7 goals and 7 assists in MLS, while adding 1 goal and 1 assist in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
    • Ingvartsen has contributed 11 goals and 4 assists in MLS this season.
  • Club Puebla:
    • Winless in their last 4 games after opening the Apertura with a 1-0 win over Juárez.
    • Have allowed 8 goals thus far in the tournament, three more than any other team.
    • Emiliano Gomez is the only player from Puebla that has shot more than one occasion in each game.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

For San Diego, the equation is simple: win or go home. The hosts need to reach at least six points to climb the standings, while goal difference could also play a decisive role in determining whether they can secure a place in the Quarterfinals.

That urgency should make San Diego the clear aggressor from the opening whistle. With everything to play for and the advantage of playing at home, expect them to push numbers forward, control possession and create as many scoring opportunities as possible. Simply winning may not be enough, so adding goals could become just as important as securing the three points.

Club Puebla, meanwhile, could take a much more cautious approach. The Liga MX side will look to stay compact defensively, frustrate San Diego and limit the space available in the final third. With the hosts likely to commit numbers forward, Puebla’s best opportunities could come on the counterattack, where it will look to exploit any gaps San Diego leaves behind.

Polymarket gives San Diego FC one of the strongest advantages of the matchday, with the MLS side at 67% of the market compared to 16% for Puebla.
