The annual interleague club tournament that pits the best of Major League Soccer and Liga MX against one another will offer qualification to the Concacaf Champions Cup, regional bragging rights, and a place in the spotlight during North America's most important summer for the sport.
Since 2023, Leagues Cup has evolved into a must-watch summer showcase. With interest in soccer surging following the FIFA World Cup across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, the prestige attached to lifting the trophy may be greater than ever.
Trophy: Silverware and Champions Cup Qualification
Contested from August to September 2026, Leagues Cup will crown a new champion and award three berths to the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup — the confederation's pathway to the 2027 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
Past champions Inter Miami (2023), Columbus Crew (2024), and Seattle Sounders (2025) will seek to become the competition's first two-time winner, while the remaining clubs pursue a first Leagues Cup title under the current format.
The tournament champion will also earn a direct bye to the Round of 16 of the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. The runner-up and third-place finisher will qualify for Round One.
Region: MLS and Liga MX Competing for Supremacy
In Leagues Cup 2026, the winners won't just lift a trophy — they may help define the balance of power in North American soccer's most important year.
MLS clubs have dominated the podium since the tournament's expansion in 2023, securing all three Champions Cup qualification places for three consecutive seasons. Monterrey remains the only Liga MX side to reach the semifinals during that span.
No Liga MX club has finished among the top three since the format changed in 2023, but Mexican sides will look to reverse that trend in 2026, particularly with several clubs enjoying home-field advantage for the very first time.
Club América, Tigres, and Toluca will each host matches at their home stadiums, providing an additional platform to showcase some of Mexico's most passionate fan bases and potentially shift the tournament's competitive dynamics.
In Leagues Cup fans can experience some of the finest stadiums in North America and are encouraged to visit leaguescup.com/tickets or their local club websites for ticket details.

Reputation: To Be Among North America’s Best
Leagues Cup has also become a proving ground for clubs seeking to elevate their standing within the region.
The inaugural edition of the expanded format in 2023 saw finalists Inter Miami and Nashville earn their first-ever qualification to the Concacaf Champions Cup. For Inter Miami, the title represented the club's first major trophy and helped launch a period that included an MLS Supporters' Shield in 2024 and an MLS Cup triumph in 2025. Nashville later captured its own first major honor by winning the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The 2024 Final delivered a rematch of MLS Cup 2023, with Columbus Crew once again defeating LAFC. For Columbus, the victory provided continental validation after a heartbreaking runner-up finish in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup. LAFC responded by capturing its first Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title.
In 2025, Seattle Sounders defeated Inter Miami in a showcase final staged in one of the United States' most passionate soccer markets. Coming shortly after the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, in which both clubs participated, the victory reaffirmed Seattle's place among the region's elite and added another chapter to a legacy that includes the club's historic 2022 Concacaf Champions Cup triumph.
Ultimately, Leagues Cup represents more than a month-long tournament. It is a race for silverware, a battle for regional supremacy, and an opportunity for clubs and leagues alike to strengthen their reputations on one of North America's biggest stages.
