WHAT TO EXPECT?

The Gabriel Milito era at Chivas de Guadalajara has officially collected its first victory, and the 12-time Liga MX champions will seek to begin a positive streak as the club goes for its first win the Leagues Cup.

“Our energy is focused on starting by winning the three points. The classification of only four teams forces you to win every game,” said the Chivas head coach.

"MLS and Liga MX continue to evolve and grow, so it's a very valuable competition for us. We know it grants passes to the [Concacaf Champions League], and we want to participate,” Milito added.

Mexican winger Roberto Alvarado headlines a Chivas contingent that includes players with MLS experience in former Sporting Kansas City DP Alan Pulido, San Jose Earthquakes homegrown Cade Cowell, and LA Galaxy homegrown Efraín Álvarez – one of the team’s summer transfers.

New York Red Bulls looks to build on a 2024 MLS Cup runners-up finish and win its first international trophy.

With the likes of Emil Forsberg, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Carlos Coronel among its ranks, RBNY will seek its first win against the famed Mexican club at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

“We want to win this trophy,” said Red Bulls head coach Sandro Schwarz. “Of course we want to be very successful, but for me, the success starts then, with the first duel, with the first pass, and with the first sprint.”
