Liga MX Matchday 5 Recap: Club Tigres and Club Querétaro net important victories


Jornada 5 of the 2023 Apertura of LIGA MX has come to an end, after the three delayed games which were played in the middle of the week. Here is our recap of all the action:

Chivas de Guadalajara 1-0 Club Tijuana

After being left with a bitter taste in their mouth in a draw against Juárez, the Rojiblancos won with a goal by Roberto Alvarado against Los Xolos, who still have a game in hand.

Mazatlán FC 1-0 Club Puebla

This marked the first victory for the Sinaloan side in the tournament, who managed to get three points, despite Andrés Montaño being sent off as Facundo Ezequiel Almada scored the game’s only goal.

FC Juarez 4-1 Pumas

This was a tough game for the visitors as Santiago Ormeño, Diego Campillo, José Juan García and Avilés Hurtado scored for Juarez, newly minted Mexican international César Huerta, pulled one back for the capital side.

Club América 3-2 Club Necaxa

The hosts have a game in hand, but they’ve added their second victory to move into eighth place for now, while Necaxa remain the only team without a win so far.

Club Pachuca 1-0 Cruz Azul

Illian Hernández scored to help Los Tuzos get their first win of the 2023 Apertura in a victory over La Máquina, who were coming off their first win of the season at the weekend.

Atletico de San Luis 3-0 Club León

The host went top thanks to a game in which Rodrigo Dourado, Léo Bonatini and Jhon Murillo scored. After this, Atlético de San Luis won away to Pachuca on Monday.

Club Toluca 1-0 CF Monterrey

One of the three delayed games, since Los Rayados had reached the semifinals of Leagues Cup 2023. Juan Pablo Domínguez scored the goal for Los Diablos to move his team into sixth place.

Club Queretaro 1-2 Atlas FC

Los Gallos Blancos still have one game in hand after reaching the quarterfinals of Leagues Cup 2023, but Juan Manuel Zapata's goal in injury time helped Los Rojinegros into fifth place.

Club Tigres 3-2 Club Santos Laguna

It was a thrilling encounter at the Universitario as Juan Pablo Vigón's double plus a goal from Jonathan Ozziel Herrera gave the three points to Tigres, who moved into the top four.
