Club León capped off an impressive all-around performance with a late goal from Daniel Arcila in the 79th minute, earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nashville at GEODIS Park.
León capitalized on a defensive lapse to break the deadlock. After winning possession deep in Nashville's half, Sebastián Santos took advantage of the numerical superiority inside the penalty area and slipped a pass to Arcila, who calmly placed his shot into the bottom-right corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Xavier Valdez to give the visitors the decisive lead.
The breakthrough came just moments after Nashville's best opportunity of the night. Goalkeeper Óscar García produced a spectacular save to deny Sam Surridge's powerful header, preserving the clean sheet. García had already made another key stop earlier in the match, playing a crucial role in keeping León level before the winning goal arrived.
León set the tone from the opening whistle, dominating much of the first 20 minutes with an aggressive high press and quick ball recoveries. The visitors nearly opened the scoring when Diber Cambindo broke through on goal, only to see his effort heroically cleared off the line by defender Josh Williams.
The second half unfolded differently as Nashville head coach B.J. Callaghan made a series of substitutions that helped the home side gain control in midfield. Nashville pushed forward and delivered a steady stream of crosses into the penalty area, but León's back line remained organized and dealt comfortably with the aerial threat.
After Arcila's goal, Nashville threw numbers forward in search of an equalizer, but León defended with discipline and composure. The visitors closed spaces effectively, limited the hosts to few clear-cut opportunities, and saw out the final minutes to secure one of the biggest road victories of the opening phase.
With the result, León claims three valuable points to begin its Leagues Cup campaign, while Nashville will need positive results in its remaining Phase One matches to keep its hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals alive.
