Subaru Park in Pennsylvania will host the clash between Philadelphia Union and Santos Laguna in a duel where the Major League Soccer club needs a true miracle to advance to the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup 2026. With three points earned after two matchdays, product of their victory on matchday one against Necaxa and then the defeat against Cruz Azul, the home side needs a win, to score big, and then hope that neither Austin FC nor Chicago Fire get a single point in their respective games against América and La Máquina Celeste. On top of that, if those two results they need happen, they would have to keep an eye on Portland Timbers and New York City FC who also have three points and need the two teams above them to fall.

Philadelphia Union will look to impose itself from the opening whistle through direct play, physical intensity and relentless pressure on the Mexican side’s buildup. With its tournament hopes on the line, the home side needs a victory — preferably accompanied by a healthy goal total — and a favorable combination of results elsewhere to keep its chances of advancing alive.
Santos Laguna, meanwhile, enters the match virtually eliminated and facing a very different kind of pressure. Los Guerreros could opt for a compact and disciplined approach, looking to slow the tempo when in possession and limit the spaces Philadelphia’s intensity can exploit. Once Santos wins the ball back, quick transitions could become its biggest weapon against a Union side that may be forced to commit more players forward.
With Philadelphia needing to take risks and Santos looking to close its campaign on a positive note, the match could become increasingly open as the clock winds down.
Polymarket strongly favors Philadelphia Union heading into Thursday, with the MLS side earning 68% of the market compared to just 15% for Santos Laguna.
