Inter Miami CF are the team with the most goals scored at Leagues Cup 2023. Ahead of the final against Nashville SC, the Florida outfit have put away 21 goals, and are led by the tournament’s top scorer in Lionel Messi. The team have been clinical from inside the penalty area, and have scored 71% of their goals in the box.

The Herons have found the net 15 times from 6 different players from their forays into the penalty area. Their four from long-range have all come from Messi at crucial moments: 2-1 against Cruz Azul; 1-0 against FC Dallas; 4-4 against FC Dallas; and to make it 2-0 ante Philadelphia Union.

Inter Miami have also seen two own goals come their way. Their first came from FC Dallas’ Marco Farfan, who halved the deficit to make it 4-3 to his team ten minutes from time before Messi’s late equaliser. The second came in the win over Charlotte FC, with Adilson Malanda scoring at a similar time to make it 3-0.

One potential source of hope for Nashville SC is that Inter Miami CF are yet to score from a header. That said, they do have a lethal weapon in Lionel Messi’s ability from free-kicks - the Argentine maestro has scored twice from set-pieces in the past month. The first was a last-minute winner against Cruz Azul, and the second was the late equaliser against FC Dallas to make it 4-4.

The team doesn’t seem to favor one foot or the other, having scored ten right-footed goals and nine left-footed strikes. This is probably down by the fact that, in addition to the left-footed Messi, the frontline features right-footers in Robert Taylor and Josef Martinez, who between them scored 7 of the team's 21 goals.
