MATCHDAY 6: Teams wrap-up their second games in Leagues Cup with an offensively charged Sunday slate

MATCH BY MATCH

GUADALAJARA vs. CHARLOTTE FC (Bank of America Stadium, 7:30 p.m. ET)

One team will leave with its first victory of Leagues Cup 2025 when Chivas de Guadalajara meets Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

After entering the Leagues Cup on a five-match unbeaten streak, winning its last four in a row, Charlotte FC was denied a new club-record for consecutive victories in a 4-1 loss to FC Juárez.

Mexican powerhouse Chivas de Guadalajara will also seek redemption after giving up a free kick goal in the closing seconds for a crushing defeat against New York Red Bulls in their first game.

MONTERREY vs. NY RED BULLS (TQL Stadium, 8 p.m. ET)

Monterrey will have to send their best players to the pitch to beat a motivated New York Red Bulls team in what is expected to be another tight Phase One game in Leagues Cup.

La Pandilla had a disappointing loss in their Leagues Cup Opener against FC Cincinnati even after fielding a talented roster with Sergio Canales, Germán Berterame and Sergio Ramos on the field. The center back made his tournament debut and had some chances in attack, but the team felt short after a 3-2 loss and now they are in desperation mode.

Red Bulls, on the other hand, looked solid on defense and after grinding for more than 90 minutes against Chivas de Guadalajara, captain Emil Forsberg scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time, which was his first career Leagues Cup goal. Those three points prove to be vital in a tight race for a spot in the knockout stages.

COLORADO RAPIDS vs. TIJUANA (Dick's Sporting Goods Park, 9:30 p.m. ET)

Tijuana comes into this match at a crossroads. The Liga MX side suffered a 5-2 defeat to the LA Galaxy — one of the league’s lowest-ranked teams — in its opening match, raising serious questions about their form. Tijuana currently sits in the bottom half of the Liga MX table, and with only the top four Liga MX clubs advancing from Phase One, pressure is mounting.

For the Rapids, it’s simple: win, score as many goals as possible, and hope other MLS teams falter. The opportunity to advance — and continue a historic run — is within reach.

SEATTLE SOUNDERS vs. SANTOS LAGUNA (Lumen Field, 10:30 p.m. ET)

The Seattle Sounders are set to go after blowing out Cruz Azul 7-0 in their first match. It was a rout for the ages as Seattle scored all seven goals in the second half en route to the largest win in Leagues Cup history.

On the other end, It's all or nothing for Santos Laguna who need a win to stay alive in the tournament following a crushing 2-1 loss to the Rapids on Thursday.

LA GALAXY vs. CRUZ AZUL (Dignity Healthy Sports Park, 10:30 p.m. ET)

One team will work to stay in the right track and the other one must avoid being derailed once again, as LA Galaxy hosts CF Cruz Azul.

There is no question that the Galaxy has had a tough MLS season so far, but the defending MLS champions seem to be catching their groove, especially after their 5-2 Leagues Cup opening victory against Club Tijuana.

On the other hand, everything came tumbling down for Cruz Azul in the second half of their first tournament game against Seattle Sounders in the current edition of the Leagues Cup. They played well in the first half, but seven goals in the final 45 minutes proved to be devastating for the organization and their fans.
