Leagues Cup

Cruz Azul set the goal to win it all this semester, which means they're giving the Leagues Cup final the importance that an international competition deserves.

Elias Hernandez, a key player in La Maquina’s recent resurgence, confirms that the desire to lift trophies remains as strong as ever and recognizes that loyal Cruz Azul fans demand success in every competition.

“Every tournament is important,” Hernandez pointed out. “These supporters aren’t going to settle for just one cup won.

“This season we have three trophies within reach, we already conquered one (Supercopa MX), we hope to get one more tomorrow, and give our fans some joy.

“But without a doubt, all games are important. We can’t just pass on an opportunity like this one.”

‘The Patrolman’ understands that it won’t be easy to beat such a powerful team like Tigres, an opponent that's full of strengths and very low on weaknesses.

“We're facing a team that plays very well, that plays as a team, and also has good individual performances,” Elias said, while also highlighting the Cementeros’ punch upfront. “There is a lot of quality, this team has important players who in any given moment can change a game without a problem.”

In recent days there’s been a lot of talk about Cruz Azul's off-the-field issues. Hernandez is quick to point out that the group ignores all the outside noise and focuses on “representing La Maquina” and “being the first team to win Leagues Cup”.

Hernandez was the man who sealed the Celestes' 2-0 victory against the Chicago Fire in the quarterfinal round of Leagues Cup with a late goal. At the beginning of the season, he was also key in Cruz Azul’s Supercopa MX title, as he netted the second goal in a 4-0 rout of Necaxa.
